Is it for me?
This assessment is aimed at Category 1 candidates who are experienced gas fitters, with existing gas knowledge and skills. These candidates will be looking to renew certificates which have expired or are due to expire.
Additionally Category 1 candidates maybe looking to add appliances and expand their scope of work.
What do I need?
Original ACS Certificates relevant to the application.
Expired ACS certificates must be within 12 months of expiry to qualify as a Category 1 candidate.
Candidates can only re-assess on Appliances they currently hold under the ACS Scheme. If you are looking to add an Appliance to your C.V then training for this will be mandatory and you should allow for this when calculating potential costs.
What will I study?
The assessment contains the following:
- Characteristics of Combustion
- Ventilation
- Installation of pipework
- Tightness testing and purging of domestic sized natural gas installations
- Checking and/or setting meter regulations
- Identification of unsafe situations and the use of emergency notices and warning labels
- Checking and setting appliance gas safety devices and controls
- Flue testing
- The installation of pen, balanced and fan assisted flue assemblies
- Gas Safety Legislation
- Re-establish existing gas supply and relight appliances
Where will I study
Skills Academy for Construction
The £6million Academy is home to all of our construction trade courses, including plumbing, joinery, bricklaying, decorating and electrical installation, as well as The Collective – a special partnership of the regions very best Apprenticeship providers.
How will I be assessed?
The ACS assessments are in two parts, both written and practical. The written assessment will be in open book format and may be supported with verbal questions. Manufacturers instructors and nominated gas regulations and British Standards will be available to assist candidates in answering questions. The assessment can be completed together with the re-assessment appliances.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught by experienced industry tutors. The course will include a mixture of classroom, practical and assessment activities to involve the learners and provide a relevant and engaging learning experience.
What qualification will I get?
Successful candidates will be awarded the BPEC Certification CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety.
Can I go on to further study?
CCN1 is the Core Safety module that is a compulsory requirement, once you have gained this you can study five further modules consisting of HTR1 (Heaters and Fires), WAT1 (Water Heaters), CEN1 (Central Heating Boilers), CKR1 (Cookers), and MET1 (Domestic Heaters).
